Ágnes Szávay is the first finalist
Hungary’s Ágnes Szávay defeated Ukraine’s Alona Bondarenko 6-1, 6-2 in the first semifinal of the GDF SUEZ Grand Prix Saturday to qualify for Sunday’s final.

The match was more one-sided than expected and did not reflect the situation that the 36th in the WTA ranking (Bondarenko) was playing someone ranked right behind her. Int he first set, the Ukrainian could only win a single game – after Szávay was already 5-0 up.

The second set began where the first one was left off. Szávay produced a clearly superior play over that of Bondarenko. Szavay opened the set with a service break and was leading 5-2 when she completed the match by winning her own service game.

In the final, Szávay will face either Patty Schnyder of Switzerland or Edina Gallovits of Romania.
