Shahar Peer knocks out defending champion Cornet
Interview.

You caused the surprise of the day. Was it as easy as the result suggests?

You know, I don’t really go by the results. I think I played very good, I did what I had to do. I managed to hold on to my tactics to play aggressively and control the game for the whole match.

What sort of play did you prepare for against her?

This was the first time we played. The first two games took us 18 minutes to complete. That was a key moment for me for the match. She is a good player, she defends well in all parts of the court, she has a very good world ranking. I knew I had to be consistent throughout the match and that’s what I did.

Did you force your play on her?

I think I was the one who was very aggressive also. I had my winner and I made her make mistakes. I was very aggressive from the forehand and the backhand alike and I came to the net when I could.

In the next round, No. 6 seed Alona Bondarenko is your opponent.

The last time I played her was in the Fed Cup this February in the Ukraine. I won in a close match. She is a tough player, so I don’t expect an easy game but if I manage to play the same as today and as aggressively as I did now, I can do very well.
